Regular Season Round 27: Brampton A's - Ottawa S. 111-105
Date: January 23, 2014
The Ottawa SkyHawks returned home riding high for the game against the Brampton A’s Thursday following a six-game road trip that began at the beginning of the month. They finished with a 3-3 record including two straight wins to close out the trip, but the welcome mat was left out for the A’s while the welcome home sign never materialized for the SkyHawks. A 111-105 win by the A’s, their first in Ottawa in four tries this season, was the outcome that had SkyHawks coach Jaren Jackson disappointed, but not dismayed, especially since his team had to play a makeup game Wednesday in London where they earned a 107-89 win over the Lightning. “I give a lot of credit to my guys,” Jackson said. “We had to play (Wednesday) and then come back here and play. The schedule doesn’t do us any favours but these guys are pros and they have to come out and compete, and I thought we did that for the most part at the end of the game. Early on we had trouble.” The SkyHawks (14-15) trailed 56-49 at the half but had a decent third quarter and went into the final one down by just two, 74-72. It all unravelled early in the fourth though as the A’s (19-8) took over the game building up a 16-point lead. Just as quickly as it went south for the SkyHawks though, they were able to turn it around, and although they lost, it was a four-point game in the final minute. Cedric Moodie paced the A’s and led all shooters with 30 points. Ryan Anderson had a game-high 20 points for the SkyHawks. A non-call in the final minute on SkyHawks guard Justin Tubbs erased a chance for a basket, and according to Jackson that was key. “I give a lot of credit to my team to be able to make that run and make that comeback. But that call at the end boy, we really could have used that. We were on our way to make this a buzzer-shot type of game,” Jackson said. “But it was an entertaining game and it was a game in which the fans can learn a lot about the game. (Brampton) play some unselfish ball- we do too- and we do all the things that you ask for as a fan when you see to two teams play, so I have a lot of respect for what Brampton is doing.” The SkyHawks will now take the show on the road as they host the Lightning at the CEGEP de l’Ouataouais Monday night. It is one of two games the team will play at the school in the coming weeks as they reach out to fans on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River. Courtesy of: ottawacitizen.com
