Regular Season Round 51: Tulsa 66ers - Santa Cruz W. 99-102
Date: January 24, 2014
In the final 83 seconds Friday night, Cameron Jones couldn't miss from the free-throw line and Tulsa couldn't find its shooting touch. Jones hit all six of his free throws over the last 1:23 and Tulsa connected on just one of its last 11 field goal tries as the Santa Cruz Warriors posted a 102-99 comeback victory over the 66ers before 2,041 fans at the SpiritBank Event Center. The Santa Cruz guard was the difference-maker in the fourth quarter when he scored 12 of his team-high 19 points. Leading 79-70 entering the final quarter and by as many as 12, Tulsa watched Santa Cruz (14-9) go on a game-changing 15-2 run to grab a 93-92 lead with 2:29 to play, the Warriors' first lead since midway through the second quarter. Mario Little answered for the 66ers, nailing a 3-pointer to give Tulsa (7-16) a 95-93 edge with 1:38 to play. That, however, was Tulsa's last field goal until Scoop Jardine hit a 3-pointer with 5.3 seconds left. After the Warriors' Scott Machado made one of two free throws with 2.6 seconds left, Tulsa had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but Little's desperation shot from halfcourt went off the front iron. "We didn't look fresh or ready to compete in the most important quarter tonight," Tulsa coach Darko Rajakovic said. "Our defense went cold in the fourth quarter. They scored 32 points on us because we completely lost our defensive pace." After two stellar performances on the road and earning the NBA Development League's Performer of the Week award last week, Rodney Bartholomew logged 16 points and a career-best 19 rebounds for Tulsa. It marked the third straight game that Bartholomew has collected 15 or more rebounds. After foul trouble kept Tulsa from finding its rhythm throughout much of the first half, the 66ers finally found their stride late in the second quarter, piecing together a 13-2 run to end the half with a 53-46 lead. Reggie Williams had seven of Tulsa's 13 points during the run, including a 3-pointer during the run to give the 66ers their first lead. Williams led the 66ers with 21 points and Xavier Alexander and Ron Anderson each added 14. Courtesy of: tulsaworld.com
