Regular Season Round 52: Rio Grande VV - Austin T. 123-116

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers beat the Austin Toros for the second time this week, winning 123-116 Saturday night in Hidalgo. The loss drops the Toros to 10-12, 7 1/2 games behind the Vipers in the NBADL’s Central Division. Rio Grande Valley improved to 19-6, the best record in the NBADL. The Toros have lost all three games against the top-seeded Vipers this season. The Toros were led by Josh Howard, who scored 28 points. Jonathan Simmons had a double-double for Austin, with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Myck Kabongo added 20 points and Dexter Pittman scored 18 points, 16 in the first half. Isaiah Canaan had a game high 34 points for Rio Grande Valley. The Vipers led by seven after the first quarter. Ten three-pointers, coupled with Canaan’s 17 points in the first half, gave Rio Grande Valley a 15-point lead at the break. The Toros scored 39 points in the third quarter and finished the period on an 11-4 run to get within two points going into the fourth.
