Very predictable result when third ranked Crailsheim Merlins (14-5) smashed at home 14th ranked Magdeburg (5-14) 95-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Crailsheim Merlins. Magdeburg was better in fourth quarter 26-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Crailsheim Merlins made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American point guard Carlos Medlock (183-87, college: E.Michigan) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 9 assists. Center Marco Lachmann (205-91) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard Lamar Morinia (183-81, college: MSU-Northern) responded with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Uruguayan-Czech forward Martin Volf (202-80) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Crailsheim Merlins. They moved-up to second place. Magdeburg lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Crailsheim Merlins will face MLP Academics Heidelberg (#5) at home in the next round. Magdeburg will play against the league's leader BG Goettingen (#1) and hope to win that game.
