Round 16 in National League means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Ashkelon where host Ironi Ashkelon (8-8) beat league's leader Hapoel Kazrin (12-4) 95-89 on Tuesday evening. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 35-22 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ironi Ashkelon made 26-of-30 free shots (86.7 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Hapoel Kazrin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Paul Carter (204-87, college: Ill.-Chicago) fired 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Casey Mitchell (193-88, college: W.Virginia) chipped in 21 points. Forward Erik Etherly (201, college: Loyola, MD) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and forward David Loubeau (203-89, college: Texas A&M) added 19 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Ironi Ashkelon and four Hapoel Kazrin players scored in double figures. Ironi Ashkelon moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hapoel Migd.H. and Kiryat Tivon. Hapoel Kazrin at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Ironi Nahariya. Hapoel Kazrin will play next round against strong Ironi Ramat Gan trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Ironi Ashkelon will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Hapoel Migd.H. in Tarshicha.
