Regular Season Round 58: Idaho S. - Los Angeles D. 127-135

Date: January 31, 2014
If nothing else, this year’s Idaho Stampede team has made one thing clear to its fans: Don’t leave before the games are over. After the Los Angeles D-Fenders built a 13-point lead in the second half, Idaho clawed to within three points in the final minute Friday night at CenturyLink Arena. But in the end, this night belonged to Terrence Williams. The D-Fenders forward scored 50 points as Los Angeles defeated Idaho 135-127. The scoring output was the highest in the NBA Development League this season and a D-Fenders franchise high. Current Laker Manny Harris dropped 49 on Idaho during a 133-124 D-Fender victory Jan. 10 in Boise. “I didn’t know what I had until someone told me I needed four more points,” said Williams, a Louisville product who was selected 11th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft. “I was like, ‘What for?’ And they said to get to 50 points. But at that point the game was close, so it was good to get to 50 and get the win.” Williams’ night overshadowed some solid performances by the Stampede. Guard Dee Bost posted a triple-double (16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists) and Kevin Murphy scored a team-high 34 points in his 10th game with Idaho. “This was a tough loss for us, but we fought together as a team and came up a little bit short,” Murphy said. Idaho coach Michael Peck said the game came down to a couple of critical plays that Idaho couldn’t capitalize upon. “It’s just frustrating,” Peck said. “I’ve told these guys for the last month or so how close we are to being that good. But also, our margin of error is very small.” Idaho will get another chance against L.A. on Saturday night. The two teams are locked in a highly competitive battle in the West Division. Four teams came into Friday within one win of the division lead. “We’ve got a chance to get them back (Saturday),” Murphy said. “We’ve got to run them off the 3-point line. They hit a lot of 3s (17-of-40).” Courtesy of: idahostatesman.com
