Regular Season Round 17: Langen - Leipzig 73-58

Date: February 1, 2014
There was a surprise result when seventh ranked TV 1862 Langen (8-9) defeated at home 3rd placed USC Leipzig (10-7) 73-58 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by TV 1862 Langen. USC Leipzig was better in fourth quarter 16-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding USC Leipzig to just 6 points in third and fourth quarters. TV 1862 Langen looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Martinis Woody (201-82, college: Benedict) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Benedikt Nicolay (190-91) chipped in 9 points and 5 assists. TV 1862 Langen's coach Thomas Glasauer used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Honduran guard Christopher Flores (188-90, college: NJIT) produced 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Magnus Heinrich (197-87) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. TV 1862 Langen moved-up to sixth place in Group South, which they share with Fraport SKY II and Licher Baeren. Loser USC Leipzig keeps the third position with seven games lost. TV 1862 Langen will face league's second-placed Dresden on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. USC Leipzig will play against Fraport Skyliners II and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the ProA just one year after relegation.
