Regular Season Round 59: Delaware 87ers - Springfield A. 112-115

Date: February 1, 2014
Darius Johnson-Odom scored 25 points Saturday night as the Springfield Armor held off the Delaware 87ers 115-112 in NBA Developmental League play. Larry Anderson added 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Armor (8-17), which in winning its second straight nearly frittered away a 23-point lead. Willie Reed also had 21 points for Springfield, and Dennis Horner had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lorenzo Brown poured in a season-high 33 points for the Sevens (7-23), but missed a game-tying 3-point attempt from the top of the circle at the buzzer. Springfield led by 23 late in the second quarter, and was still up 21 early in the third. But the Sevens rallied behind Brown, as well as Matt Bouldin (22 points) and forward Keith “Tiny” Gallon, who generated 20 points and 15 rebounds. The Sevens, who trailed 92-83 after three quarters, closed the gap to one, at 113-112, on a dunk by Kyrylo Fesenko with 7.3 seconds remaining. Johnson-Odom made two free throws with 5.7 seconds to play, and Brown rushed the ball upcourt, only to come up empty on his 3-point attempt. The Armor made 12 of its first 15 shots to open a 30-12 lead eight minutes into the game, a stretch that saw Anderson score eight of his 10 first-half points. The Sevens crept within 10, at 39-29, early in the second period, but Springfield nailed four-pointers in a 19-6 spree – two of them by Quinn McDowell – to push its lead to 58-35 with 4:30 left in the half. The Armor’s lead at the break was 68-50, at which point Johnson-Odom and Reed had 13 points apiece. Odom also handed out six of his eight assists in the half, and Reed had three blocks for Springfield. Brown led Delaware with 16 points in the first half, all of them coming in the first quarter.
