Regular Season Round 17: Mickiewicz - Cieszyn 93-59

Date: February 1, 2014
There was no surprise when 11th ranked Cieszyn (2-15) was outleveled by ninth ranked Mickiewicz (6-11) in Katowice 93-59 on Saturday. The game without a history. Mickiewicz led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Cieszyn to just 7 points in first quarter. Mickiewicz made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 28 Cieszyn turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Cieszyn's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mickiewicz made 7 blocks. Power forward Dawid Kolakowski (207-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Power forward Mateusz Migala (199-94) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Leszek Siwy (196-83) answered with 13 points and 4 steals and point guard Michal Kubaczka (190-94) added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Cieszyn. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mickiewicz maintains ninth place in Group B with 6-11 record. Cieszyn lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Mickiewicz will face AZS Pol.Cz-wa (#10) in Czestochowa in the next round. Cieszyn will play at home against Alba Chorzow and hope to win that game.
