Regular Season Round 38: Angeles - Gigantes 95-87
Date: February 2, 2014
There was no surprise in Acapulco where 11th ranked Gigantes (9-25) were defeated by ninth ranked Angeles (17-17) 95-87. Gigantes were ahead by 1 point after three quarters before a 25-16 charge of Angeles, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Gigantes outrebounded Angeles 49-35 including 17 on the offensive glass. American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) notched 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and point guard Luis Ramirez (180-82) supported him with 25 points. Even a double-double of 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. His fellow American import guard Javarris Barnett (200-89, college: Charlotte) added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Angeles maintains ninth position with 17-17 record. Gigantes lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 25 games lost. Angeles' next round opponent will be league's leader Halcones Rojos in Veracruz and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gigantes will play at home against Panteras (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
