We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Weissenfels where 10th ranked Phoenix Hagen (9-11) was defeated by eleventh ranked Mitteldeutscher BC (9-11) 76-70. The hosts were already 16 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 22-12 Phoenix Hagen's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 76-70 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Phoenix Hagen 49-32 including 35 on the defensive glass. Mitteldeutscher BC brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Phoenix Hagen helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American-Italian forward Angelo Caloiaro (203-89, college: USF) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Serbian forward Djordje Pantelic (204-84) supported him with 8 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Mitteldeutscher BC moved-up to tenth place, which they share with NY Phantoms and Phoenix Hagen. Mitteldeutscher BC's next round opponent will be higher ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners (#9) in Frankfurt and it may be quite challenging game.
