Regular Season Round 34: Mississauga P. - Ottawa S. 89-100
Date: February 12, 2014
The Mississauga Power rallied late but couldn't complete the comeback, losing 100-89 to the Ottawa SkyHawks last night in the nation's capital. Morgan Lewis held the hot hand for the visiting Power, pouring in 27 points and adding 12 rebounds to lead the team yesterday. Kirk Williams Jr. chipped in with 16 points and the recently reacquired Jaushay Rockett had nine points and five rebounds in his season debut with the Power. Rockett, who first played for the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL) franchise in 2011 when they were based in Oshawa, was just resigned by Mississauga. "I'm happy to be back. I've put some work in and we have some unfinished business from last year to take care of," said Rockett, prior to the Ottawa game. "I'm going to make the game easier for my teammates on both ends of the floor. I'm poised and I'll let my game do the rest of the talking." Last season, Rockett led the team in rebounding and was third in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game. Meanwhile, Jerice Crouch lead the SkyHawks with 28 points and four rebounds. The Power were leading early until the SkyHawks went on a 13-0 run to take a 27-18 lead at the end of the first. A hard-fought second quarter saw Mississauga reduce the Ottawa lead to 48-40 by the end of the half. The SkyHawks built up a 20 point lead in the third quarter but a 14-3 run for the Power kept them in the game and gave the team a chance to rally in the fourth. In the last quarter, Mississauga drew within five points of Ottawa but couldn't get any closer and wound up losing by 11 points. The loss drops Mississauga's record to 9-26. They sit eighth in the nine-team NBL standings. The Power visit the Windsor Express on Valentine's Day and are back n Ottawa on Sunday for a rematch with the SkyHawks. They return home to the Hershey Centre to finish out the remainder of the season and will host the Express on Feb. 20. They will host the Island Storm on Feb. 25 and the Brampton A's on Feb. 27 to close out the regular season. Courtesy of: mississauga.com
