Regular Season Round 25: Uberlandia - Pinheiros/Sky 76-77

The most exciting game of round 25 in the NBB took place in Uberlandia. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 7th ranked Unitri (12-8) to second ranked Pinheiros (16-5) 77-76 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Unitri. Unitri was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 18-13 charge of Pinheiros, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 19 Unitri turnovers. American point guard Joe Smith (192-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 assists for the winners. Naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 18 points. Pinheiros' coach Claudio Mortari used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The former international point guard Valtinho Silva (187-77) produced a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists and the former international point guard Helinho Garcia (186-75) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Unitri players scored in double figures. Pinheiros have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 16-5 record having seven points less than leader Flamengo. Unitri at the other side keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Pinheiros are looking forward to face Vivo/Franca (#11) in Sao Paulo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Unitri will play at home against Palmeiras (#10) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
