Regular Season Round 36: Mississauga P. - Ottawa S. 102-106

Date: February 16, 2014
The Ottawa Skyhawks came back from a 15-point second-half deficit to win their final regular season game at the Canadian Tire Centre. 106-102. The Skyhawks outlasted the Mississauga Power in this afternoon's game in Ottawa, marking their second home win over the Power this week. After trailing 70-55 with five minutes left in the third quarter, Ottawa underwent an offensive resurgence, shooting 58.3% in the second half to roar back and win. With two games left in their regular season, the Skyhawks retained fourth place in the Central Division and sixth overall. Mississauga sits fifth in the Central and eighth in the nine-team league. Ottawa extended their win streak to four games with today's victory, which came just four days after they topped Mississauga 100-89 at the CTC. Sweet-shooting guard Mike Rose came off the bench to lead the Skyhawks with 24 points, knocking down five of eight three-point attempts. Ottawa's Fred Sturdivant notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Ryan Anderson scored all of his 18 points in the second half to key the Skyhawks' comeback. Mississauga's Morgan Lewis paced the away side with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Kirk Williams Jr. added 17 points in the loss. Ottawa native Eric Kibi set an aggressive tone for the Skyhawks off the opening tip-off, swatting a shot and scoring on a put-back layup early in the first quarter. Rose entered the game midway through the frame and hit back-to-back threes, giving Ottawa a 30-28 lead after 12 minutes of play. Though Rose and Justin Tubbs both knocked down three-pointers to start the second quarter, the Skyhawks' offence stagnated, with the Power closing on a 22-6 run to take a 50-42 halftime lead. After going scoreless in the first half, Anderson began to connect offensively in the third quarter. He scored nine straight points in under a minute, drawing two three-point plays and hitting a straightaway three-pointer. The Skyhawks outscored Mississauga by four in the quarter to trail 79-75. Ottawa's leading scorer this season, Anderson demonstrated his versatile offensive prowess to start the fourth, scoring on an acrobatic layup and feeding Sturdivant for an open dunk that brought the fans to their feet. Point guard Jerice Crouch nailed a corner three with three minutes remaining, giving the Skyhawks their first lead of the second half. While Mississauga's Lewis broke out for a runaway slam with just over a minute left, the Power never regained the lead, with Crouch and Anderson potting consecutive midrange jumpers to effectively seal the win. Ottawa outscored Mississauga 31-23 in the final quarter to win 106-102. Today's meeting was the eighth and final matchup of the season between the Skyhawks and Power, with Ottawa winning seven. They've now won 13 of 19 home games in their inaugural NBL Canada season, while the Power's dismal away record dropped to 3-17. Courtesy of: oursportscentral.com
