Zhejiang survived two overtimes to tame Shanxi in the opening game of the semifinal series. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-10. But Shanxi Rui Flame won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Shanxi Rui Flame used huge pressure winning it 29-24 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually double-overtime period 6-6. Zhejiang Far East dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Shanxi Rui Flame's 46 and made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Zhejiang Far East forced 27 Shanxi Rui Flame turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Brittney Griner (203-90, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. The former international forward Xiaoli Chen (193-82) contributed with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American Maya Moore (183-89, college: Connecticut) answered with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 19 rebounds, 4 assists and 9 steals and forward Yue Zhang (184) added 18 points and 5 assists in the effort for Shanxi Rui Flame. Five Zhejiang Far East and four Shanxi Rui Flame players scored in double figures.
