Regular Season Round 38: St.John M.R. - London L. 92-102

Date: February 20, 2014
It was old-home week for more than one National Basketball League of Canada team at Budweiser Gardens on Thursday. The London Lightning were the home team and Saint John Mill Rats, with their four former Lightning, were the guests this night on the court. But lurking in the seats were the The Island Storm and their three former Lightning. They arrived 48 hours early for their Saturday on-court date with London. On the court, the Lightning were not gracious hosts as they handed the Mill Rats a 102-92defeat before 5,296 fans that included a sold-out upper bowl of General Dynamics employees. Elvin Mims led the Lightning with 26 points and Anthony Anderson was the top Mill Rat scorer with 24 points. The former Lightning with Saint John were Jermaine Blackburn, Tyrone Levett and Dane Smith. Raheem Singleton, who started this season with the Lightning, did not make the trip with Saint John and is on injured reserve. Blackburn left the Lightning late last season and was not part of the championship playoff run. “They both great places,” Blackburn said. “Saint John is just where I am at right now and I’m just focusing on bringing some success to Saint John and win the championship there.” Lightning general manager Taylor Brown said head coach Micheal Ray Richardson and Blackburn did not see eye to eye. “He’s a solid player in this league. I consider him in the top echelon of the players in this league,” Brown said. “It was just a difference of opinions with the coach and it was either him or Micheal Ray and Micheal had won a couple of championships and we weren’t getting rid of the coach.” Courtesy of: metronews.ca
