Twelfth-ranked Valur (1-17) gave a tough game to seventh ranked Snaefell (8-10) in Reykjavik on Thursday. The visitors from Stykkisholmur managed to secure only three-point victory 89-86. However their fans expected much easier game. Valur trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 29-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 86-89 at the end of the game. Snaefell had a 34-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Snaefell made 11 blocks. The best player for the winners was American point guard Travis Cohn (187-89, college: Jacksonville) who scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. International forward Jon Olafur Jonsson (199-81) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Snaefell's coach Ingi Thor Steinthorsson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) who recorded 36 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds and guard Runar Ingi Erlingsson (187-89) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Snaefell have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 8-10 record. Valur lost eleventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 17 lost games. Snaefell will meet Stjarnan (#8) on the road in the next round. Valur will play against Skallagrimur (#11) in Borgarnes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
