Regular Season Round 78: Bakersfield J. - Idaho S. 99-103

Dee Bost and Kevin Murphy led the Idaho Stampede (20-15) to a 103-99 win over the Bakersfield Jam (12-21) Monday night. The two guards combined for 61 points to help Idaho win their third consecutive game. The first quarter featured four lead changes and eight ties as the two teams were trading baskets. Kevin Murphy appeared to be heading toward another big scoring night with 12 points in the first quarter. Ike Diogu led Bakersfield with 10 points to put his team up 27-25. The Jam jumped out quickly in the second quarter and eventually pushed their lead to 13 points. Both teams shot 57 percent from the field but Bakersfield had the rebound advantage of 17-8 in the quarter. Jam guard JamesOn Curry scored 10 off the bench to help Bakersfield keep their lead. Stampede guard Dexter Strickland then nailed a half-court buzzer-beater to bring Idaho’s deficit to nine points heading into halftime. Murphy and Bost scored eight points each to boost Idaho in the third quarter. The Stampede held Bakersfield to 34 percent shooting and were able to chip away at the Jam’s lead, heading into the fourth quarter down 86-82. Bost scored eight more points in the fourth, including a couple of big 3-pointers to help Idaho take the lead. Kevin Murphy hit four free throws down the stretch to clinch the 103-99 victory for the Stampede. Bakersfield was led by Ike Diogu’s 21 points and 12 rebounds. Newly acquired Terrel Harris pitched in with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but the Jam only shot 27 percent in the fourth quarter and 31 percent in the entire second half. Kevin Murphy led all scorers with 34 points. The Stampede’s leading scorer also grabbed eight rebounds. Dee Bost recorded 27 points, five rebounds and five assists despite early foul trouble. Dallas Lauderdale added 11 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks. The Stampede will host Santa Cruz on Friday, Feb 28 while the Jam will host Reno the same day. Courtesy of: csnnw.com
