Higher ranked Melbourne Tigers (12-12) fell to eighth ranked Townsville Crocodiles (9-15) in overtime by three points 106-109 on Saturday night. The game took place in Melbourne. But the guests from Wulguru were better at the end. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 28-22. But Melbourne Tigers won second period 15-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Melbourne Tigers used huge pressure winning it 28-27 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 8-11. Townsville Crocodiles made 35-of-40 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Melbourne Tigers were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international guard Steven Markovic (190-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 6 assists. The former international forward Todd Blanchfield (200-91) contributed with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) replied with 32 points and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) added 28 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Melbourne Tigers. Five Townsville Crocodiles and four Melbourne Tigers players scored in double figures. Townsville Crocodiles maintains eighth position with 9-15 record. Melbourne Tigers lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the third place with 12 games lost. Townsville Crocodiles will face league's second-placed Adelaide 36ers in Findon in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
