Regular Season Round 19: Ginasio - Leca 70-62

There was no surprise in Figueira da Foz where 12th ranked Leca (2-17) was defeated by third ranked Ginasio (12-6) 70-62. It looked good early as Leca took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ginasio had a 18-4 second period charge getting the lead and Leca was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-70. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Leca to just 4 points in second quarter. It was a very good performance for naturalized Cape Verdean forward Joaquim Soares (198-83) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. International center Marco Goncalves (206-84) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Ginasio players scored in double figures. Swingman Pedro Meireless (184-95) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds and naturalized Angolan forward Paulo Ferreira (187-80) added 4 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Leca. Leca's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Ginasio maintains third place with 12-6 record having seven points less than leader Illiabum. Leca at the other side stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Ginasio will play against Sangalhos (#9) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Leca will play against the league's leader Illiabum and hopes to get back on the winning track.
