Quarter-Finals Round 1: Brampton A's - London L. 95-87

The Brampton A’s have taken the lead in their best-of-five National Basketball League of Canada playoff series with the London Lightning. The A’s dropped the two-time defending champions 95-87 at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon. The series continues on Wednesday in London at 7 p.m. In the first-ever playoff game played in Brampton the A’s got out to a strong opening quarter, outscoring London 30-20. The A’s shared the ball well with 25 assists on 35 made baskets and committed only 13 turnovers. London had the rebounding edge 52-44. Cedric Moodie led the A’s as he collected 15 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds. Melvin Council chipped in with 14 points, Kevin Francis 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, Brent Jennings 12 points and Steve Idlet 10 points. Flenard Whitfield was the top rebounder with seven, to go along with seven points. The A’s finished their regular season with a 27-13 record, that included a 105-104 victory over London on Friday night at the Powerade Centre. Cavell Johnson scored 19 points leading five A’s in double figures. Jameson Tipping scored 17 points, Council had 14, while Jennings and Idlet had 10 points apiece. Donald Johnson hauled in 13 rebounds. Cavell Johnson was named the NBL Player of the Week for the second time this season as he averaged 19.5 points per game in four Brampton victories. The A’s return home on Saturday at 7 p.m. for Game 3. If a fourth game is necessary it will be Thursday March 13 in London with a fifth game scheduled for March 15 in Brampton at 7 p.m. The other Central division series begins tomorrow with the surprising Mississauga Power taking on the first-place Windsor Express.
