Regular Season Round 17: Vitoria SC - Lusitania 95-93

Ninth-ranked Lusitania (6-9) gave a tough game to second ranked Vitoria SC (11-5) in Guimaraes on Sunday. Vitoria SC managed to secure only two-point victory 95-93. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lusitania. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-18. But Lusitania won second period 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vitoria SC looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international point guard Pedro Pinto (188-88) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 assists for the winners and American forward Tony Meier (203-90, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Jaime Smith (191-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and the other American import Zane Campbell (203-90, college: Al.-Huntsville) scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Vitoria SC have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-5 record having six points less than leader Benfica. Lusitania at the other side keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. Vitoria SC are looking forward to face Ovarense (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Lusitania will play against Sampaense and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
