Rather expected game in Bamberg where 5th ranked Artland Dragons (16-9) were defeated by second ranked Brose Baskets (20-3) 78-72 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 20-11. But Artland Dragons won second period 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Brose Baskets looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Rakim Sanders (193-89, college: Fairfield) stepped up and scored 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and point guard Jared Jordan (188-84, college: Marist, agency: Pro One Sports) chipped in 8 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists and 4 steals. Brose Baskets' coach Chris Fleming used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side forward Lawrence Hill (203-87, college: Stanford) responded with 15 points and 7 rebounds and center Kenny Frease (212-89, college: Xavier) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Brose Baskets have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 20-3 record having 2 victories less than leader B.Muenchen. Loser Artland Dragons keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Brose Baskets will face ALBA Berlin (#4) on the road in the next round. Artland Dragons will play against Eisbaeren Bremerhaven and hope to win that game.
