Pioneros escaped with an overtime victory over Fuerza Regia on the road and grabbed 2-1 lead in the semifinal series. Fuerza Regia was tied after three quarters and then recorded another tie at the end of regular time. They were eventually defeated in overtime 9-18s. Pioneros made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Pioneros outrebounded Fuerza Regia 43-31 including 33 on the defensive glass. Fuerza Regia was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Robert Hornsby (201-82, college: Troy) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Hector Hernandez (206-85, college: Fresno St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. Cuban point guard Reynaldo Garcia (187-90) answered with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Leroy Davis (200-81, college: Georgia St.) added 18 points in the effort for Fuerza Regia. Fuerza Regia's coach LaSelle Taylor rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
