Maranhao stepped closer to the semifinal stage after they handled Ourinhos on the road. The game was mostly controlled by Maranhao. Ourinhos was better in third quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Ourinhos 48-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. Maranhao players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Ourinhos' players. American guard Roneeka Hodges (180-82, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) nailed 24 points and 5 assists for the winning side and her fellow American import point guard Briann January (173-87, college: Arizona St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) accounted for 7 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 6 steals. Maranhao's coach Hebert Lima felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International center Fernanda Bibiano (193-85) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and international swingman Patricia Ribeiro (176-90) added 4 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Ourinhos in the defeat.
