We should mention about the upset which took place in Goiania, where higher ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (17-12) lost to fifteenth ranked Universo/Goiania (9-21) in a road game 85-100 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sao Jose/Vinac. The game without a history. Universo/Goiania led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 20-of-21 free shots (95.2 percent) during the game. Universo/Goiania forced 22 Sao Jose/Vinac turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. Uruguayan forward Emilio Taboada (191-82) scored 33 points (!!!) and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman Diego Pinheiro (195-80) chipped in 22 points and 5 steals during the contest. At the losing side the former international Jefferson Andrade (207-83) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) and American-Dominican point guard Emmanuel Quezada (188-85, college: USF) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sao Jose/Vinac's coach rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Universo/Goiania maintains fifteenth position with 9-21 record. Loser Sao Jose/Vinac dropped to the seventh place with 12 games lost. Universo/Goiania will meet higher ranked Winner/Limeira (#4) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Sao Jose/Vinac will play against Palmeiras and hope to secure a win.
