Date: April 5, 2014
The Austin Toros closed the 2013-14 season with a 129-125 win over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Saturday night in Hidalgo. It was the second time this season that the Toros defeated the Vipers. Rio Grande Valley won the first six matchups. The loss knocked the Vipers out of the top spot in the NBA Development League’s Central Division. They entered the game in a three-way tie with Iowa and Sioux Falls. The Toros finished last in the division at 19-31. Flip Murray scored 32 points, including a clutch three-point play with 40 seconds left to give the Toros the lead. Robert Covington led the Vipers with 27 points. The Toros led by three after the first quarter and by two at halftime. They were up by five going into the fourth, but the Vipers went on a 7-2 run to tie it at 97 with 10 minutes left. The teams traded the lead in the closing minutes, and Murray’s three-point play with 40 seconds left gave the Toros a two-point margin.
