Sao Jose/Unimed had to withhold a fierce opposition from Palmeiras before eking out an overtime victory in the eighth-final series opener. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Palmeiras won third quarter 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Palmeiras used huge pressure winning it 23-16 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 10-11. Sao Jose/Vinac forced 20 Palmeiras turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sao Jose/Vinac made 10 blocks. The former international Jefferson Andrade (207-83) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. American-Dominican point guard Emmanuel Quezada (188-85, college: USF) chipped in 5 points and 19 assists. Italian-Argentinian point guard Maximiliano Stanic (178-78, agency: Players Group) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds and 16 assists and center Atila Santos (208-83, college: Minn.St.-Mankato, agency: Warren Sports International) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side.
