Finals Game 1: Wildcats - 36ers 92-85

Date: April 7, 2014
Perth got to the winning start of the NBL Finals. The Wildcats held off Adelaide in the opener. Adelaide 36ers trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 12 after three quarters before a 28-23 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 85-92 at the end of the game. Perth Wildcats shot 31 for 47 from the free-throw line, while Adelaide 36ers only scored eleven points from the stripe. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Perth Wildcats made 8 blocks. 32 personal fouls committed by Adelaide 36ers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American swingman James Ennis (201-90, college: Long Beach St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 19 points. At the losing side international power forward Daniel Johnson (212-88, college: Pepperdine) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds and international guard Adam Gibson (188-86) scored 13 points and 9 assists. Four Perth Wildcats and five Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. Adelaide 36ers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.
