Pinheiros/Sky snatched a narrow home win over Mogi das Cruzes at the start of the eighth-final series. It looked good early as Mogi took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pinheiros had a 25-14 second period charge getting the lead and Mogi was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 82-85. Mogi was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 27 points. American point guard Joe Smith (192-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) contributed with 15 points and 7 assists for the winners. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. Guilherme Filipin (191-83) answered with 22 points and 5 assists and center Daniel Castellar (202-83) added 15 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Mogi. Mogi's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.
