1/8 Finals Round 2: Niigata Albirex - Shinshu BW 78-86

Date: May 4, 2014
Niigata Albirex advanced into the next stage of the tournament despite the loss to Shinshu in Game 2. Niigata followed the loss with a narrow victory in a tie-breaker mini-game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Niigata Albirex won third quarter 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Niigata Albirex 39-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. Shinshu BW looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St.) notched 21 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Shota Konno (184-85) supported him with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Shinshu BW's coach Ryuji Kawai used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists by American guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) did not help to save the game for Niigata Albirex. His fellow American import forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Five Shinshu BW and four Niigata Albirex players scored in double figures.
