Semi-Finals Game 5: Gigantes - Marinos 85-79

Gigantes defeated Marinos to pull ahead in the semifinal series. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-5. But Marinos won second period 30-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gigantes dominated on the defensive end, holding Marinos to just 5 points in first quarter. Gigantes shot 31 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Marinos only scored eleven points from the stripe. Marinos were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. International forward Axiers Sucre (199-78) nailed a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) accounted for 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Gigantes' coach Carl Herrera allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Aaron Harper (203-81, college: Mississippi) came up with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import point guard Donald Sims (185-87, college: Appalachian St.) added 17 points and 4 steals respectively for Marinos in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
