Finals Game 1: Maccabi Haifa - Maccabi T-A 77-81

Maccabi Tel-Aviv snatched a road win over Maccabi Haifa in the opening leg of the championship series. The return leg is scheduled for Wednesday in Tel-Aviv. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maccabi Haifa won third quarter 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Maccabi Haifa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll., agency: Priority Sports) stepped up and scored 30 points and 7 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners and American-Georgian point guard Richard Hickman (189-85, college: NC-Greensboro) chipped in 14 points. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (200-83, college: SE Illinois JC) responded with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and American forward Brian Randle (203-85) scored 27 points and 7 rebounds.
