Puerto Rico celebrated the first victory at the U18 FIBA Americas Championship. They held off Brazil for 1-1 record in Group A. Brazil slipped at 0-2 record after the loss. Ivan Gandia nailed 17 points to lead the winners. Brazil snatched a 24:22 lead ten minutes into the game. But Puerto Rico adjusted defensively in the second quarter. They jumped to a 38:36 halftime lead. Puerto Rico stretched the lead in the third term. They established a 62:53 advantage heading into the fourth period. Brazil narrowed the gap in the final stanza but could not avoid the defeat. Victor Jusino netted 10 points, while Arnaldo Toro had 9 points in the victory. George Alves answered with 15 points for Brazil. Lucas Swiert and Lucas de Souza had 12 points each in the loss.
