Puerto Rican U18 National Team earned a tough victory over Mexico in the classification round of the FIBA Americas Championship today. Julian Torres sank a late free throw to propel Puerto Rico to the victory. The teams stayed neck and neck throughout the first quarter. The scoreboard read 23:23 at the end of the first frame. Puerto Rico snatched a 40:38 halftime advantage. Mexico erased the deficit in the third term. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 57. It was a roller coaster action in the final stanza but Puerto Rico were able to secure a tough victory at the end. Lonnie Rivera knocked down 13 points to pace the effort. Leandro Allende, Julian Torres and Ivan Gandia scored 10 points each for Puerto Rico. Jose Arenas answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds for Mexico. Osmar Garcia connected for 11 points, 9 boards and 6 assists in the defeat.
