Mexico finished their U18 FIBA Americas Championship campaign on a high note. They knocked down Uruguay to occupy the 7th overall position. Victor Alvarez Diez netted 16 points to pace the winners. Mexico unloaded 26 points in the first frame and secured a 4-point lead. The teams traded baskets throughout the second frame. Mexico ensured a narrow 40:36 halftime lead. Uruguay went on a strong rally in the third term. They triggered a 27:13 run to ensure a 10-point lead at the final break. But Mexico silenced their opponents with a 26:2 blow in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory. Jose Arenas had 14 points, while Jeffry Suarez added 12 points for Mexico. Martin Counago answered with 24 points for Uruguay. Octavio Medina had 17 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
