Dominican Republic got to a convincing start in Nayarit. They thumped Costa Rica in Group A action. Suero stepped up with 13 points to pace the effort. Dominican Republic snatched a 14:11 lead after the opening quarter. But they triggered a 25:6 run in the second period to secure a 39:17 halftime advantage. Dominican Republic stayed in charge throughout the third term. They went on a 27:10 run in the quarter and never looked back on the way to the victory. Victor Liz had 12 points, while Orlando Sanchez and Eloy Vargas netted 10 points each in the victory. Isaac Conejo responded with 17 points for Costa Rica. George Leftord had 6 points in the loss.
