Turkey opened win count at the World Cup in Spain. They overcame New Zealand in the opening game for both teams in Group C. Oguz Savas stepped up with 16 points to pace the Turkish team. It was never an easy one for Turkey. The Tall Blacks grabbed 17:8 lead after the first period. They stayed in charge throughout the second term. The Tall Blacks established a 38:28 halftime advantage. But Turkey picked up the tempo coming off the long break. They dropped 24 points in the third term to pull within 4 points. Oguz Savas scored four points in a row to trigger a 9:0 run from Turkey in the final four minutes of regulation and they got away with the victory. Prelzdic delivered 14 points, while Hersek added 11 points in the win. Corey Webster responded with 22 points for New Zealand. Loe had 11 points in the defeat.
