Regular Season Day 3: ANGOLA - MEXICO 55-79

Mexico opened win count at the World Cup. They outgunned Angola for 1-2 record in Group D. Hector Hernandez stepped up with 24 points to pace the winners. Angola slipped at 1-2 record after the loss. Things were going Angolan way in the first period. The African powerhouse gained a 20:15 lead after the opening quarter. But Mexico tuned in pretty quickly. They held Angola to 15 points in the second period and pulled ahead for a 36:35 halftime advantage. Mexico made a decisive run in the third term. They went on a 21:10 rally in the period to secure a 12-point lead at the final break. Angola could not recover conceding a 10:22 blow in the fourth term. Gustavo Ayon finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Francisco Cruz added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the win. Vander Joaquim and Yanick Moreira responded with 13 points each for Angola.
