Quarter-Finals Day 7: FRANCE - SPAIN 65-52

France will play in the World Cup semifinals. The European champions shocked hosting Spain in Madrid tonight to set up the clash versus Serbia. Boris Diaw tallied 15 points to pace Les Bleus. It was a classic battle between two outstanding teams. France opened the game on an 11:2 run. But Spain quickly denied the deficit and Pau Gasol gave the hosts a 15:13 lead. Nicolas Batum tied things at 15 after ten minutes. France extended their lead in the second term. A perfect defensive effort saw France limit Spain to just 13 points as Les Bleus built a 35:28 halftime lead. Spain opened the second half with back-to-back baskets to pull closer. The hosts held France to just 7 points in the third term to ensure a 43:42 lead. Evan Fournier scored four points to spark a 7:0 run from France midway through the fourth term. They gained a 51:45 advantage. Spain would get within three points few times before Thomas Heurtel scores six points in a row and gave France a 62:52 lead with 46 second remaining. Spain could not score in the reminder of the contest as France marched to a remarkable victory. Thomas Heurtel produced 13 points, while Nicolas Batum and Mickael Gelabale added 9 points each for the winners. Pau Gasol responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds for Spain. Juan Carlos Navarro had 10 points in the loss.
