Date: October 11, 2014
Bottom-ranked Mulhouse Basket (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 93-86 loss to seventh ranked Vendee Challans (3-1) in Challans. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Vendee Challans made 26-of-32 charity shots (81.3 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 28 personal fouls committed by Mulhouse Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by Bahamas power forward Lavar Simmons (201-83, college: Master's) who scored that evening 23 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and American forward Alex Okafor (202-87, college: Princeton) supported him with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Even 22 points and 4 steals (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) by guard Jeremy Bichard (185-90) did not help to save the game for Mulhouse Basket. Lithuanian point guard Darius Gvezdauskas (191-88) added 16 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for lost side. Five Vendee Challans and four Mulhouse Basket players scored in double figures. Mulhouse Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vendee Challans moved-up to third place, which they share with Vichy. Mulhouse Basket at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with four games lost. Vendee Challans' next round opponent will be Saint Vallier (#14) on the road which should be an easy win for them.
