Regular Season Round 1: Khimky - VEF Riga 94-65

Khimky used a home court advantage and outscored the opponent from Riga 94-65 on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Khimky. VEF Riga was better in fourth quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimky dominated down low during the game scoring 38 of its points in the paint compared to VEF Riga's 18. Khimky forced 23 VEF Riga turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by VEF Riga's players. It was a very good performance for American-Montenegrin point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll., agency: Priority Sports) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 5 assists. Croatian point guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) contributed with 10 points and 8 assists for the winners. Four Khimky players scored in double figures. American point guard Gerald Robinson (185-89, college: Georgia) answered with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Janis Timma (201-92) added 17 points in the effort for VEF Riga. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Khimky will face Un.Olimpija in Ljubljana in the next round. VEF Riga will play at home against Szolnok.
