Quarter-Finals Round 3: Cafeteros - Guerreros 81-75

Cafeteros surged ahead in the quarterfinal series. They held off Guerreros for the second win in the playoffs. It looked good early as Guerreros took an 9-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Cafeteros had a 27-14 second period charge getting the lead and Guerreros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-81. Strangely Guerreros outrebounded Cafeteros 47-29 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for Dominican swingman Dagoberto Pena (198-88, college: Marshall) who led his team to a victory with 25 points. American forward Eric Williams (198-85, college: Tarleton St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Cafeteros players scored in double figures. American point guard Tayron Thomas (191-84, college: Philadelphia) answered with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Stalin Ortiz (190-81, college: Valparaiso) added 20 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Guerreros.
