Regular Season Round 5: DniproAzot - Cherkasy 81-97

Bottom-ranked DniproAzot (0-4) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to fifth ranked Cherkasy (3-1) 97-81 on Monday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Cherkasy. DniproAzot managed to win third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cherkasy dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to DniproAzot's 32. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was naturalized Moldovan Andrii Kalnichenko (201-86) who scored 23 points. Center Igor Chumakov (208-90) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Cherkasy's coach Maksym Mikhelson used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Eugene Harris (188-86, college: High Point, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) produced 30 points and 7 assists and the former international guard Bogdan Bayda (193-89, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Cherkasy. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Dnipro and Ferro-ZNTU. DniproAzot lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Cherkasy will meet at home Ferro-ZNTU in the next round. DniproAzot will play against BC Kyiv and hopes to get finally their first victory.
