Regular Season Round 5: Polpharma - Anwil 65-88
Date: November 2, 2014
Anwil has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive loses. The win is especially important as they outplayed much higher ranked Polpharma (2-3)on the road game in Starogard 88-65 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 49-22 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Anwil dominated on the defensive end, holding Polpharma to just 7 points in third quarter. The best player for the winners was naturalized Canadian forward Greg Surmacz (203-86, agency: Promotex) who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Lithuanian point guard Arvydas Eitutavicius (188-82, college: American) chipped in 11 points and 6 assists. Five Anwil players scored in double figures. American power forward Evan Ravenel (203-89, college: Ohio St.) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import Tony Meier (204-90, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 9 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Anwil (1-4) left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place, which they share with MKS DG and Trefl Sopot. Loser Polpharma dropped to the eighth position with three games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Anwil will meet at home Trefl (#13) in the next round. Polpharma will play against the league's leader PGE Turow (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
