Regular Season Round 5: Portland TB - Golden St.W. 90-95

Date: November 2, 2014
The Portland Trail Blazers nearly salvaged a sloppy win Sunday night, but three late turnovers spoiled the game in 95-90 loss to the Golden State Warriors. LaMarcus Aldridge was brilliant down the stretch for Portland scoring 10 straight points in the final five minutes, but clinging to a one point lead late the Blazers crumbled. Wesley Matthews, perhaps anticipating an intentional foul, let himself trapped on the sideline and then lost the ball out of bounds with 14.5 seconds left. After a Klay Thompson bucket gave the Warriors a one-point lead with 8.7 seconds, the Blazers tried to go back to Aldridge for a potential game-winner. Only Nicolas Batum's in-bound lob pass was deflected by Draymond Green and the Warriors came away with a steal. "We talked about that. We anticipated them trapping. Wes caught it on the sideline. I don't know if they fouled him or not - if you're not trying to foul but still foul - I don't know," Terry Sotts said. "We didn't take care of business the way we needed to." Stephen Curry drained two free throws to push the Warriors lead to three. Out of time outs, Portland had one last chance with 6.9 seconds to go. Aldridge tried to squeeze a pass to Matthews at mid-court, but Curry stepped in front to make a steal and put the game away. Curry was fouled and added two free throws for the final margin sending a deflated crowd of 19,441 home disappointed. "We have to be careful with the ball," Batum said. "We have to be more careful with the ball and not turn it over in those situations." Aldridge finished with 26 points and a season-high 13 rebounds, but needed one last bucket down the stretch that he never had a chance to attempt. Matthews had 18 points and Robin Lopez chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Batum had his second straight poor game offensively finishing with five points on just 2-7 shooting. Lillard's season-long struggles continued as he shot just 4-18 -- including a 1-10 start -- and finished with 11 points. Klay Thompson paced Golden State with 29 points and Curry overcame a poor shooting night (6-18) to finish with 21 points. Leandro Barbosa provided a spark off the Warriors bench scoring nine of his 13 points in the second half and leading Golden State's offense with Thompson and Curry on the bench.
