NBA
Regular Season Round 13: New York K. - Atlanta H. 85-91
Date: November 10, 2014
Phil Jackson warned Derek Fisher that there were going to be times like this — but not when he was recruiting him to coach the Knicks. Jackson’s warning came three weeks ago, and it hasn’t made the current predicament any easier to take. The Knicks dropped their fifth straight game — and second straight to the Atlanta Hawks — as they fell, 91-85, Monday at the Garden. Jackson spoke before the game, and Garden chairman James Dolan was back in the house after touring with his band. But the Knicks played just as they had in the last four games. Carmelo Anthony had a game-high 25 points, but it wasn’t enough. Anthony was 11 for 25 shooting, but added nine rebounds and seven assists as he expanded his game from the struggles he had over the last four games (18-for-64 from the floor). This time, for better or worse, he was going to try to take the game into his hands. Jackson cautioned earlier in the night that Anthony, like stars such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, had to remain patient in the triangle offense. “The conversation I had with him was there were times in the course of the night when either Michael or Kobe, our primary scorers, would be operating with [the mind-set] of, ‘I’m going to score every time I touch the ball,’Ÿ” Jackson said. “You can’t do that in an offense; then the defense can cue up on what you’re doing. “This is a fine balance, and I’ve talked to Carmelo a little bit about that. The team looks to you to score and there are times where you’re going to have to pick it up and do that, but for the most part the opportunities are there and you have to be inside that system and play within it.” Anthony fired up nine shots in the fourth quarter, hitting five of them, and went to the line just one time. But the forward scoring 11 of his 25 points in the quarter wasn’t enough to keep the Knicks from falling again. Courtesy of: northjersey.com
