Regular Season Round 5: Illiabum - CAB Madeira 84-85

Important game to mention about took place in Ilhavo. Ninth ranked CAB Madeira (2-3) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging higher ranked Illiabum (2-3) 85-84 in the fight for the sixth place. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-84. Strangely Illiabum outrebounded CAB Madeira 41-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when CAB Madeira made 7 blocks. American swingman Jovonni Shuler (195-87, college: Savannah St.) stepped up and scored 27 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international Jorge Coelho (200-78) chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds. Shuler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Stephen Nwaukoni (203-91, college: Hofstra) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds and Angolan forward Sergio Correia (198-85) scored 22 points. Illiabum's coach Ricardo Vasconcelos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. CAB Madeira moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Illiabum. Illiabum lost their third game in a row. CAB Madeira will face Alges (#11) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
