Regular Season Round 27: Philadelph.76 - Portland TB 104-114

Date: November 24, 2014
It took Portland nearly a full half to show up, but once the Trail Blazers arrived they took care of winless Philadelphia to earn their eighth-straight victory at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday, 114-104. It was second straight night the Blazers had a sloppy first half against one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference. On Sunday, Portland struggled to pull away from Boston. In the early going, the game against Philadelphia had a similar feel. Portland fell behind 52-50 at halftime while committing 14 turnovers that led to 12 Philadelphia points. The Sixers scored 34 of their 52 first half points in the paint and held a slim first half lead despite shooting 0-for-4 from beyond the three point line. After sleepwalking through the first two quarters, the opening moments of the third quarter looked to be more of the same for the Blazers. Philadelphia grabbed its largest lead at six points a minute into the second half before Portland finally woke up. The Blazers responded and took control of the game with a 28-10 run midway through the third quarter capped by back-to-back alley-oop dunks from LaMarcus Aldridge. The Blazers held a nine point lead heading into the fourth on the strength of Aldridge's monster quarter. Portland's All-Star power forward scored 15 points in the third quarter, knocking down all five of his shots including a three pointer and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. The Blazers outscored the Sixers 39-28 in the third quarter as they grabbed the lead for good following a disjointed first half. Philadelphia wouldn't go away down the stretch, cutting a 14-point deficit to seven with just over four minutes left in the game. Portland went over four minutes without converting a field goal, but Aldridge answered before Philadelphia could complete the comeback. Aldridge attacked the basket and drew two fouls on consecutive possessions to keep the Sixers at bay. He split the first pair of free throws, but Portland snared the rebound and he drew a another foul while hitting a short jumper in the paint. Wesley Matthews added a deep three on the next possession to stretch the lead back to 12 and end the Philadelphia threat for good. Aldridge finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds in the win becoming the first Blazer to top the 30-point mark this season. Damian Lillard added 16 points, four rebounds and three assists. Robin Lopez scored 12 points, Matthews had 15 points and Chris Kaman chipped in eight points and nine rebounds off the bench. Michael Carter-Williams led Philadelphia with 24 points and seven rebounds, Henry Sims had 20 points and Tony Wroten finished with 20 points and nine assists. Philadelphia finished with an impressive 70 points in the paint, but failed to make any of its eight three point attempts. Courtesy of: oregonlive.com
