Regular Season Round 28: Washington W. - Atlanta H. 102-106
Date: November 25, 2014
Hawks reserves Mike Scott and Shelvin Mack led a fourth-quarter surge on a night when starters were struggling, and Atlanta held to beat the Washington Wizards 106-102 Tuesday. Scott and Mack scored Atlanta's first 16 points of the final period, sparking a 22-5 run that built a 14-point lead before the Wizards hit a spate of 3-pointers to make the final score close. Scott finished with 17 points in 23 minutes, and Mack had 13 in 19 for the Hawks, who have won six of eight. Jeff Teague scored 28 points, and Paul Millsap had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Atlanta. John Wall had 21 points and 13 assists, and Marcin Gortat had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards, who committed a season-high 25 turnovers. Washington played without power forward Nene, who missed his first game due to injury this season with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Paul Pierce shot 6 for 16, Bradley Beal 4 for 14 and Kris Humphries 2 for 7 for the Wizards. DeMarre Carroll went 3 for 10, and Kyle Korver was 0 of 3 for the Hawks. Such performances opened the door for reserves like Washington's Drew Gooden (5 for 8, 12 points) and Atlanta's Mack (5 for 9) and Scott (5 for 10). Mack, a Wizards 2011 second-round draft pick who played a little more than one season in Washington, made a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter that gave the Hawks the lead for good. Teague made it 92-78 with a pair of free throws with 4 minutes remaining, but the Wizards hit a series of 3-pointers to keep the outcome in doubt until the final seconds. Courtesy of: abcnews.com
